Classroom Management Plan:

Routine:

My philosophy for classroom management starts by establishing clear daily routines for my students that set them up for success and put students in an environment where they feel noticed and valued as individuals. These routines include:

  • Communicating with student’s teacher before class starts and after class ends. This could also include asking the students how their day has been going and what they’ve been doing in class before coming to music.

  • .Having a seating chart and assigned partners and groups for certain activities. This will put students next to students that they participate well with and will give students a sense of regularity.

  •  Greeting my students at the door before every class

  • Starting every class with a singing response question and rhythm cards.

  • Going over the schedule of that day’s activities before activities begin so that the students know what to expect and know what is expected of them.

Classroom rules and expectations:

Show kindness: Towards yourself, your peers, your teacher, and your classroom

Be in control: Of your actions, your words, and your attitude

Put your best self forward: Use your best effort, try everything, and have fun!

Measuring positive behavior:

A huge part of my philosophy is focusing on student’s positive behavior in the music classroom. I believe motivating positive behavior encourages students to make good choices. To help reinforce this, I’ve come up with the “Noted” Behavior Chart:

“Noted” Behavior Chart: The “Noted” Behavior Chart is a chart that promotes and shows students good behavior in the music classroom. Each class will have their own chart that is made out of poster board and placed on an easel during their class period. When a student shows especially good behavior such as friendliness toward others, great sharing skills, good listening skills, or showing great participation they will get their name written on a music note sticker that gets placed on the chart. Each month the stickers will be counted up and if a class gets more than 20 stickers in a month then they will get a reward in their music class. This behavior chart promotes teamwork from each class. Each class can work together to have good behavior and kindness towards each other. The "noted" behavior chart allows students feel that they are important and their good behavior is important.

Consequences for negative behavior:

  1. Non-verbal cues to student

  2. moving student closer to teacher

  3. Verbal reminder to student about rules and expectations/ taking student aside to talk to them individually

  4. Removing student from activity

  5. Phone call or email home

  6. Send student to principal’s office
